The Good The hike includes 3 great observations points with views of Hollywood and the surrounding areas. |

The Bad This park is an off-leash dog park. Some parts smell like...poo-dle. |

Notes The 134-acre park's main drag is a wide path snaking along the canyon floor, gradually ascending to the scenic point called Cloud's Rest. From Cloud's Rest, fitness buffs can choose to proceed downward via a steep dirt fire trail. However, most hikers opt to retrace their path for a gradual and paved return to the bottom. Up and down on the paved path is a little more than two miles, and takes about an hour.
Fido runs free while his two-legged companion enjoys a scenic cardio workout. The unique, dog-friendly exercise opportunity makes this city park popular with hikers and canines of all shapes and sizes. The rich and famous are apparently no less immune to the charms of their ecstatic, frolicking doggies, so be on the lookout for celebs in sweats, baseball caps and expensive sunglasses.

If we take the route to the left, around the yoga garden, we will follow the loop in the easy direction, starting with the paved section of the trail. Following straight ahead will lead up a steep ridge studded with rail ties.
Parking is difficult. You may have to park more than a block away. Allow an extra 10 minutes to find a parking space (possibly at the top of La Brea) and walk to the park entrance. |
