Special instructions   It looks to be a cool weekend, so there's no excuse to stay at home.

Directions  Driving along Franklin Ave. (east of the Hollywood Fwy 101) turn north on Bronson or Canyon Drive. Drive North until you pass the Park's entrance gates. The road becomes Brush Canyon Trail. Head up about another kilometer (over half a mile), park on the right in the dirt parking lot.

The Good  - Parking is Free!
- The caves are cool.
- This trail is dog friendly, but remember to bring a leash.

The Bad  One of our hikers was hit head-on by a racehorse and knocked off a cliff.

Then again...

"We'll take the house. Honey, the chances of another plane hitting this house are astronomical. It's been pre-disatsered. We're going to be safe here." --T. S. Garp

Where  In Hollywood, north of the Church of Scientology.

Notes  Yes, there are actually real caves in Hollywood! Opened in the early 1900's before it was part of the park, this area was the Los Angeles Stone Company. The tall cliffs were used as a source for crushed rock to pave Sunset Blvd., Highland Avenue and Wilshire Blvd. The quarry was also used as a source to construct the rail lines for the famous Red Cars of the 1930's and 40's.

The abandoned rock quarry and it's resulting manmade caves were at one time one of Hollywood's most famous filming locations. Just about every production company filmed something here, including the Batman and Robin series. I shot a music video here, and an episode of Hart to Hart.
