Special instructions   For those of you attending the yesican.org charity bowling event on Sunday, this hike is right in the neighborhood. So pack your hiking boots and your bowling shoes.

Directions  From the 101 Freeway exit Reseda Blvd and head south. Stay on Reseda until the very end. We'll meet at the end of the paved road.

The Good  This trail sports an absolutely fabulous view of the valley, Santa Monica, & Los Angeles.
This trail is dog friendly, but remember to bring a leash.
Outhouses are available at the parking lot. Full restrooms are available at the top.

The Bad  There is a $5 fee for parking toward the top of the hill. This area is designated by a white line painted across the pavement part way up the parking lot. Parking in the free area just adds another 1/8mile to your trek, so maybe you won't mind. The single pay console is to the right of the road a short distance after the magic white line across the road.

There is a photo enforced stop sign. So be sure you come to a complete stop.

Where  Mulholland Drive

Notes  During the Cold War the U.S. military constructed 16 Nike Missile sites around the Los Angeles area. The first one was operational in 1950 and the last one was decommissioned in 1974. Today little remains of this interesting part of L.A. defense history, but we can still climb all over it.

The hike is a short walk up to Mulholland Drive where we can enjoy a fabulous view of the Encino Reservoir and the valley. Once reading Mulholland there is very little change in elevation. Hiking east will bring us to this cold war relic.

It is possible to drive to the Nike Station from the from the neighborhood of our hike "Nike Station - East Side". So if you wake up late, you can meet us at the top, and maybe someone will be nice enough to drive you back to your car later. No promises. though.
