Area Los Angeles
Address 32100 Pacific Coast Hwy, Malibu, CA
Elevation n/a
Change n/a
Distance 4.83 km ( 3.00 miles )
Difficulty Easy
Special instructions   Escape the heat and escape the crowd. This is one of my favorite beaches, and well worth the drive.

Because it is a long drive, I would like to get some car pooling going. I know a lot of us are on facebook, so let's try using the facebook HtG forum to make arrangements. http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=10317&uid=2226676785

Directions  The beach is located just north of Zuma and south of CA23 on PCH.

Head north on the 101 freeway to Westlake Blvd. Turn right on Westlake Blvd (Highway 23) and follow Highway 23 to the Pacific Coast highway. Head south on the PCH for 1.2 miles, and turn right into the drive for the parking lot. The beach entrance is marked with a small brown state beach sign. (Be careful: There may be another sign for El Matador before the 1.2 mile mark. This is not it.)

Alternately, you can take the Pacific Coast Highway straight up from Santa Monica, but on warm days the traffic will be very bad. Again, the beach entrance is marked with a small brown state beach sign.

The Good  Free parking, cool air, tide pools

Where  El Matador State Beach‎

Notes  This state park offers coastal cliffs and caves, as well as large rocks and tide pools. It's a great beach for relaxing or exploring. But it can get cold, so bring something warm to wear.
