Special instructions   This weeks hike will be lead by the fun loving Dougie Campbell!

Directions  From Highway 101 exit Topanga Canyon Blvd. in Woodland Hills and head south one mile to Mulholland Drive and turn right. Turn left on Mulholland Highway and head west 2.2 miles to Old Topanga Canyon Road. Head 3.6 miles south, then turn west on Red Rock Canyon Road. . You may park at this intersection or continue on for 4/5mile to the park entrance. Two- tenths of a mile on this road is dirt and unimproved, so take it easy. (lamountains.com)

We'll meet in the parking lot.

Note: Make sure to drive in slowly and enjoy bizarre Topanga. There really IS a parking lot at the end of the dirt road.

The Good  - Beautiful vistas
- Restrooms at trail heads
- Single trail in case people arrive late
- Dogs are welcome in the park
- Good parking that is rarely crowded

The Bad  - Parking fee is last listed as $5 but ranger isn't on duty anymore
- Coyotes have been seen so keep small dogs on leashes unless in groups

Where  Santa Monica Mountains

Notes  This park has a fascinating collection of geological features, including sandstone outcroppings, caves, and fossils. No matter where we wonder off to, we'll be sure to have a good time.

This time we'll likely head off to Calabasas Peak. From the trail head we'll follow the fire road east to Calabasas Peak Mountainway. From there, it's north to the peak, and returning the same way.
